Diane And The Supremes

One of the main reasons I voted for and worked to elect Obama was the opportunity for significant and lasting change and that opportunity is most evident in filling Supreme Court openings.  He hit a home run with the appointment of Sotomayor and another chance is coming with the retirement of Justice Stevens.

For nearly a century, this seat has been occupied by three of the most noteworthy and progressive  jurists in history — Brandeis, Douglas and Stevens.  It is imperative for the future of the Court that the new Justice follows in that tradition.

Judge Diane Wood of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals seems to fit the bill perfectly.  Now, I’m no expert on this, but see Glenn Greenwald make the case for Wood here and that’s more than enough for me.  He is an expert in my view: a leading constitutional law/civil rights attorney, best-selling author and blogger on Salon.com.

Obama can’t screw this one up and I don’t want any nonsense about bipartisanship and what GOP Senators have to say about this.  Elections have consequences and this needs to be one of them.  Case closed.
